Glossary

Terms as the BimZone UI uses them. Where a term is an industry standard, the BimZone meaning is given first and the standard second.

4D — the programme (schedule) linked to model elements so construction can be played by date. See 4D & 5D.

5D — cost: quantities taken off the model, priced from a rate library, booked as actual cost and compared with the programme (earned value).

Activity link — the binding between a schedule task and the model elements it builds. Made one task at a time or in bulk with Link activities to the model (WBS prefix → IFC type).

Anomaly — a statistical deviation detected by the platform (an issue-rate spike, a sensor threshold breach). Surfaces on Analytics, can trigger automation, can be Acked or Dismissed.

BCF — BIM Collaboration Format 2.x, the exchange file for issues (topics with viewpoints). Issues and clash tests export it; Issues imports it.

BOQ — Bill of Quantities: quantities grouped by IFC type or classification, optionally priced.

Ball in court — whose turn it is on an open issue.

CDE — Common Data Environment (ISO 19650): the document register and its states.

CDE state — WIP → Shared → Published → Archived. Shared is for coordination; Published is the issued state; both need a second person to reach; Published also needs an approved review round.

Clash test — a configured detection between two sets (IFC categories or search sets) with a type (hard / clearance / duplicate), a clearance tolerance and a precision (mesh or bounding box). Runs produce clashes.

Clash grid — the model-pair matrix of clash counts.

Clearance — a clash type that reports elements closer than the tolerance without intersecting.

Coordination set — a saved scope of clash tests used to focus triage.

Conflict (sync) — a record changed both in BimZone and in the vendor since the last sync. Neither side is overwritten until someone chooses Keep local or Take remote.

Container naming pattern — the ISO 19650 filename pattern project - originator - volume - level - type - role - number that document uploads can be checked against.

Copilot — the project assistant; grounded answers, confirmation before any write.

Custom field — a project-defined field on issues or RFIs (text, number, date, choice; optional or required).

Detection cap — the maximum clashes a run stores; a run that hits it reports a subset and every derived count is a floor.

Digital twin — the triple view: site reality ↔ construction model ↔ design model.

Discipline owner rule — which discipline owns a clash between two disciplines, by priority rank; without a rule the clash is "needs owner".

Drawing issue sheet / Drawing register — the register of drawings with revision, suitability, purpose of issue and last-issued date; where transmittals are issued from.

Earned value — PV/EV/AC and the SPI/CPI/SV/CV/EAC derived from them, at a status date.

Element — one IFC product (a wall, a duct) identified by (model, expressId) and its GUID; the node every record attaches to.

Federated model — several IFC models loaded together in one viewer.

Georeference — the origin latitude/longitude/altitude, rotation from true north and scale that place model (0,0,0) on the earth.

GUID — the IFC GlobalId of an element (e.g. 1nhq1uYjb4DwvRRsfdeTBQ).

Hot zone — a level × grid-zone × discipline-pair cell with a high clash density.

IDS — buildingSMART Information Delivery Specification; a ruleset (.ids/.xml) run against models to report pass/fail per rule.

ITP — Inspection & Test Plan with hold/witness clauses; WIRs reference its clauses.

Issue template — a saved pre-fill (title prefix, type, priority) offered in New issue.

Maker-checker / segregation of duties — the rule that the person who created or uploaded a record cannot be the one who approves, verifies, answers or publishes it. See Roles › Approval and segregation of duties.

MAR — Material Approval Request: a submittal with spec clause, manufacturer data and a decision.

Offline copy — the per-project bundle (sheets, plans, recent photos, registers) downloaded from the Overview for a day with no signal.

Point cloud — .las/.laz/.e57/.ply/.pts uploads shown in the viewer's Point cloud mode and used to generate floor plans.

Progress override — a manual per-element percent complete that replaces the derived figure; Clear override returns to the derived figure.

Punch list — the PDF of open defects from inspections.

Rate library — a versioned set of unit rates per classification group; publishing freezes a version.

Reality capture — floor plans with pinned 360°/standard/drone photos, walkthrough videos and capture routes.

Re-break risk — a clash likely to reopen after closing; also a triage sort ("Reactivation risk").

Re-score — recomputing existing clashes' priorities after the matrix or thresholds change.

Review round — a document review with a reviewer, due date and Approve/Reject decision; required before publishing.

RFI — Request for Information; auto-numbered, answered by a responsible party other than the raiser.

Saved view — a named viewer snapshot (camera + isolation), shareable by link.

Search set — a saved rule-based element group (also importable from Navisworks appended sets), used by clash tests and viewer filtering.

Session (Versions) — a named snapshot of the model set used for six-layer comparison.

Sheet — a 2D drawing (PDF/image/DWG/DXF) rasterised for viewing, pinning, markup, calibration and measurement.

Status date — the "as of" date for earned value and variance.

Suitability code — the ISO 19650 code (S0…S7, A1…A5, B1…B5) that says what a document may be used for.

Suppression rule — a pair of IFC types the project accepts as benign; matching clashes are marked suppressed on the next run.

Sync ledger — the per-connection log of every push/pull outcome (ok / skipped / conflict / error) with the vendor's message.

Take remote / Keep local — the two ways to resolve a sync conflict.

Transmittal — a formal issue of documents to recipients with an immutable manifest and acknowledgement links.

Trade interface — a discipline pair (e.g. Mechanical ▸ Electrical) ranked by its clash problem score.

Version group — the chain of uploads of the same file name (V1, V2 …) in Models.

Viewpoint — the camera and selection attached to an issue.

WBS — Work Breakdown Structure from the imported programme; the task tree.

WIR — Work Inspection Request against the ITP.

Workspace — the company-level container that holds members, billing, security settings and projects.
